Musical and visual concert in tribute to Igor Stravinsky

2021-09-15

Requiem for a New World is a concert by the French-Lebanese composer Zad Moultaka, which will take place on the evening of May 21st in Venice’s Basilica San Giovanni e Paolo. The concert will pay tribute to Igor Stravinsky on the 50th anniversary of his death and will premiere Moultaka’s new work, Requiem for a New World, alongside an extract of Stravinsky’s final composition Requiem Canticles, performed by an orchestra of loudspeakers and live singers. The concert will be conducted by Roland Hayrabedian, with the participation of Musicatreize and the counter-tenor Raffaele Pe. The concert is dedicated to Lebanon’s 50,000 students, who have been severely impacted by last year’s explosion in Beirut and the country’s economic crisis. All donations by audience members will go to education initiatives managed by the charitable organisation arcenciel.
